Earlier this year, Denton’s City Council provided unanimous support to implement a property tax exemption for qualifying childcare facilities. Their vote moved Denton to adopting an exemption at 100% of the assessed value and aligns with the City’s commitment to enhance early childhood education, support economic growth, and boost employment opportunities for parents.
To qualify, facility owners must:
- be licensed with Health and Human Services;
- participate in the Texas Workforce Commission’s Rising Star Program; and
- have at least 20% child enrollment as recipients of subsidized childcare services.
How to Apply:
Facility owners can apply for the exemption via the Denton Central Appraisal District’s website. Under Business Owners, select Form 50-844. Applications must be submitted by April 30 to be eligible for the exemption next fiscal year.
This announcement coincides with the agreement with Texas Woman’s University and the Bezos Academy to open a tuition-free, Montessori-inspired school for preschool-aged children. The anticipated project is set to break ground next week.
